Hello! I’m Luis, a Brooklyn-based architect, urban designer, and planner from Mexico City. I have a specialized background in urban design, master plan development, and urban planning, in addition to commercial and residential architectural design and documentation. Having worked in both large corporate and small boutique firms, as well as in the public sector, my experience spans all project phases and showcases distinguished skills with advanced design software, including Revit, Enscape, SketchUp, CAD, and Adobe’s Creative Cloud.

Currently, as an Associate Urban Designer and Program Manager for New York City Department of Transportation, I work on a mixture of Capital projects and in-house Street Improvement Projects as part of DOT’s Vision Zero Initiative. Part of my responsibilities include developing and sponsoring Capital projects using proven Vision Zero safety treatments; reviewing and providing recommended additions to proposed Capital projects from other agencies and DOT units; and coordinating outreach and design with consultants and the Department of Design and Construction, as well as aiding other project managers in the planning and design of complex intersection and corridor projects by making design recommendations based on best practices for street design as well as current DOT standards for traffic calming, pedestrian safety, and bicycle infrastructure.

Previously, working at NYC’s Department of City Planning as an Urban Designer and Community Board liaison, I coordinated zoning, land use, and urban design studies, and prepared technical and illustrative drawings and presentation materials for several projects. Part of my responsibilities included reviewing and making recommendations on projects submitted to the Department subject to the City’s Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP).

Earlier in my career, working at Gensler New York as Architectural Job Captain, BIM Manager, and Digital Design Leader, I coordinated the design of several large-scale mixed-use, hospitality, civil, and master plan development projects; including the expansion of JFK International Airport’s Terminal 4. Before joining Gensler, I served as Architect at HKS Architects, where I managed the design and construction administration for various mixed-use, hospitality, and sports venue projects, including large scale resorts, and the 50th Anniversary renovation of Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium.

I graduated with distinction from the M.S. in City and Regional Planning at Pratt Institute (via The University of Melbourne in Australia) specializing in multimodal transportation planning and urban design, and hold a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico City.

I’m an avid cyclist and pedestrian advocate.
