Master Planning / Architectural Design
King of Prussia, Pennsylvania
The owners of this retail center selected our team at Gensler to envision the master plan for a new development attached to the north end of their site, in response to the declining success of the physical retail stores that had previously anchored the complex. The plan required the integration of existing retail tenants with residential components, offices, and a hotel, all situated around a large public plaza that serves as an anchor and main attraction. While keeping the central plaza pedestrian-exclusive, it was important to keep in mind the amount of parking that the new uses would require, as well as the traffic patterns during the different seasons (e.g. Summer, December holidays.) Similarly, the incorporation of bike and transit networks was relevant due to the new bike paths and train stations built by local authorities in close proximity to the property.
